Dan Tolkowsky (* 1921 in Tel Aviv ; Hebrew דן טולקובסקי) is a former Israeli Aluf (roughly equivalent to a major general ) and was in command of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) from May 1953 to July 1958 .

Tolkowsky was the son of Samuel Tolkowsky , a well-known Zionist activist, and grandson of Isaak Goldberg ; he attended the Hebrew Herzlia High School in Tel Aviv and joined the Hagana in 1936 . Tolkowsky began military service in 1943 when the Royal Air Force sent a Jewish unit from Palestine to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe ) to study at a flight school. Tolkowsky was the first in his group to take the course, and then served as a fighter pilot and later as a flight reconnaissance aircraft in Greece during World War II .

Based on his flight experience, Tolkowsky became a founding member of the Israeli Air Force. He initially joined the Scherut Avir , the short-lived forerunner of the IAF or Hagana Air Force, where he helped procure modern military machines from Czechoslovakia . In 1959 he left the army with the rank of Aluf (roughly equivalent to a major general ).

Tolkowsky is married and has three children.
