Danae Coulmas

Danae Coulmas (Δανάη Κουλμάση, born Pavlapoulou ; * 1934 in Athens ) is a Greek publicist, writer and translator.

After studying Romance studies, philosophy and modern Greek philology, which she completed in Hamburg in 1966 with the dissertation The Apocalyptic in Victor Hugo's lyric work , Coulmas worked as a research assistant at the Romance seminar at the University of Hamburg. From 1969 to 1974 she worked as an editor for the Greek service of Deutsche Welle in Cologne and campaigned against the Greek military dictatorship with radio broadcasts and publications in magazines such as Poetica and Merkur . In 1974 she gave the anthology of anti-dictatorial texts The Execution of the Myth took place in the early morning. New texts from Greece .

After the collapse of the military dictatorship, she joined the Greek diplomatic service and was press and cultural adviser at the Greek embassy in Bonn from 1975 to 1998.

Her main focus in these years and afterwards was and is the dissemination of Greek literature in German-speaking countries.

Coulmas has lived with the German journalist Klaus Rainer Röhl since the 1960s , who divorced his then wife Ulrike Meinhof because of her. However, she remained married to the publicist Peter Coulmas until his death .

In 2013 she was awarded the Ring of Honor of the German-Greek Societies .
