The player stands on a dance mat and must step on the appropriate arrows at the right moment. In Europe, the series name was marketed under the name Dancing Stage until the end of 2008 , but the games in the series are now marketed worldwide under the same name.
The games can be played by one to four players, depending on the system and version. Some versions also offer a so-called "double" mode, in which a player uses two dance mats.
The first game in the series was developed for amusement arcades in Japan in 1998 . In the meantime, however, versions for Dreamcast , PC , PlayStation , GameCube , PlayStation 2 , Xbox , Xbox 360 , Wii and PlayStation 3 (2010) are also available. A total of 150 original songs and various game modes are available in the latter version.
Dance Dance Revolution belongs to the family of Bemani games , of which there are different variants, which are mainly characterized by different input devices. These include B. drums, drums, guitars and mixers.
