Daniel Gouadec

Daniel Gouadec is a French terminologist and translation scholar who taught as a university professor at the University of Rennes 2 in the field of translatology until 2010 .

Life

After several years as a language assistant for French and English in Great Britain (Liverpool Holt High School for Boys) and France (University of Rennes 2), Daniel Gouadec became a lecturer at the University of Rennes 2. From 1977 to 1979 he was a visiting professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada . From 1979 to 2010 he taught at the University of Rennes 2 in the department of translatology . He devoted himself in particular to the methodology for training professional translators and the recognition of their work as an independent professional category. He was awarded the “ Ordre des Palmes Académiques ” for his services to the French education system and in 2006 he received the Eugen Wüster Special Prize. In 2010 he withdrew from his long-term teaching at the University of Rennes 2.

  • Member of the “Commission nationale de réflexion sur le statut du traducteur de l'Union Nationale des Associations des Métiers de la Traduction”.
  • Member of the Expert Group in the EU project EMT (European Masters in Translation)

  • Development of translation software and software for quality assurance in the translation process
  • Instructor in the online training center CI3M from English to French
