Daniel Paul Johns (born April 22, 1979 in Newcastle , NSW , Australia ) is the singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band Silverchair , which he founded at the age of 14.

Career

The first Silverchair album Frogstomp was released in 1995. While most of the songs on this album were written by him and his bandmate Ben Gillies together, he almost completely took over the songwriting of the following albums. He released the latest album Young Modern by the band Silverchair in spring 2007.

Especially around 1999, when he suffered from anorexia and depression and got arthritis around 2002 , his songs were very personal and emotional. In 2005 he also released an (electro) pop CD together with producer Paul Mac under the name The Dissociatives .

In May 2011 the band Silverchair announced their separation, which they described as "hibernation indefinitely".

In 2015 Johns released his first solo album Talk , which no longer reminds of the 90s grunge image of Silverchair and is heavily dominated by (electro) pop.

Together with Luke Steele he founded Dreams in 2018 and released the joint album No One Defeats Us .

Others

On December 31, 2003 he married Natalie Imbruglia after a three-year partnership . However, the marriage failed in January 2008 due to the incompatibility of work and private life.

He used to be a staunch vegan , whereas he is a vegetarian today. He is also actively committed to animal welfare.
