Daniela Schulte , b. Röhle (born June 30, 1982 in Berlin ) is a German swimmer and multiple Paralympics winner in the S11 starting class .

Life

Daniela Schulte swam in the sports club as a child. From the age of nine she slowly went blind as a result of a genetic defect. At the age of 13, she took part in a competition for handicapped swimmers for the first time. Since 1996 she has been training with Matthias Ulm, today's head coach of the "Berlin Swim Team", at the Olympic base Sportforum Hohenschönhausen and in the same year she started at the Paralympics in Atlanta , where she won gold twice with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and the 4 × 100 m medley relay as well as two silver medals in 200 m medley and 100 m freestyle. The 1998 World Championships followed with 3 gold and 1 silver. At the Paralympics 2000 in Sydney, she won a silver medal for 100 m back, before taking a break from competitive sports at the end of 2000 .

From autumn 2007 she began to train again with Matthias Ulm. She achieved bronze at the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008 for 100 m freestyle and in 2009 at the European Championships 2 × gold, 3 × silver, 2 × bronze. She finished the 2010 World Championship with 3 × gold and 3 × bronze, the IBSA 2011 World Championship in Antalya with 4 × gold in 200 m freestyle, 100 m back, 400 m freestyle and 200 m medley. At the European Championships in 2011 she swam 1 × gold (5 km open water) and 4 × silver (50 m freestyle, 400 m freestyle, 100 m back, 200 m medley). At the 2012 Paralympics in London, she achieved gold for 400 m freestyle and silver for 200 m medley. She finished the 2013 World Championships in Canada with gold for 400 m freestyle and silver for 100 m freestyle, 100 m backstroke and 200 m medley.

At the 27th International German Swimming Championships for the Disabled (IDM), she achieved seven victories: Gold for 800 m freestyle (world record 10: 57.82), 100 m back, 50 m back (world record 00: 36.49), 400 m medley (world record 06: 11.71), 200 m medley, 200 m back, 200 m freestyle and silver for 400 m freestyle.

Daniela Schulte is married to Christian Schulte, has had twins since 2003 and lives in Berlin.
