World Cup victories (Women's Division) 2

Daniela Schuster (born January 26, 1973 in Wagna ) is a former Austrian skier . She was world champion in deep snow skiing and celebrated world cup victories in synchro skiing .

Life

Schuster spent the first years of her life in Wolfsberg in the Schwarzautal (Southeast Styria). There she also learned to ski. At the age of ten she switched to the ski school in Schladming and continued her education there until she was 18. The inclusion in the Styrian ski squad brought the first appearances in international races. In her youth, between seventeen and twenty, she gained her first experience in FIS races .

The first complicated injury to the heel bone resulted in an operation. Schuster was therefore out for the whole season and then began with recovery training. Another operation was necessary the following year. During the injury and training break, Schuster completed the HAK advanced course in Bad Aussee and graduated in 1992. At the age of just under twenty, she passed the state ski instructor examination and began to work at the national sports center in Obertraun .

There she met her first synchro ski partner Gabi Pilz . A new training section began. They achieved their first successes in the World Cup. For seven years Schuster and Pilz were a team and, in addition to the deep snow world championship title in 1999, also achieved further successes in the Synchro Ski World Cup. When Pilz ended her career, a new team was put together. With her "powder partner" Michéle Misteli from Switzerland, Schuster celebrated the first Synchro-Ski World Cup victories in Switzerland. However, an injury to her knee temporarily blocked her World Cup goal. A quick recovery made it possible to participate in the “Powder8” world championships and in 2002 the team was once again able to crown itself as deep snow world champions. When she last participated, at the 2004 World Championships in Canada, she placed second with Lenka Erny . A major operation in the ankle was announced in the last competition season. The extent was unpredictable and forced her to end her active career in October 2007.

In 2007 she started a university course at the sports university in Salzburg / Rif. Since October 2009 she has been allowed to call herself an academic sports journalist.
