In the following year the packaging division was sold to the Australian group Amcor . Further measures in May 2007 were the sale of the aroma division for 3.36 billion  DKK (451 million euros) with around 800 employees and an annual turnover of 203 million euros (2006) to the Swiss company Firmenich International . In 2009 the sugar division was finally sold to the German food company Nordzucker .

The funds released were used for corporate investments in the field of white biotechnology . These included the takeover of the Finnish company Cultor and the French Rhodia Food Ingredients . In addition, new production and research facilities were built around the world, for example in Tecomán , Mexico , and in Shanghai . Danisco was known for discovering the importance of the CRISPR system in bacteria as an adaptive immune system . This was the starting point for the development of the revolutionary genetic technology CRISPR-Cas9 .
