history

Founded in 1860, Australian Paper Manufacturers was renamed Amcor Limited in 1986. Previously, the company produced paper and cardboard products from cellulose, as well as metal cans and flexible packaging.

In April 2000, Amcor spun off its business printing papers to focus on global packaging. The spin-off was called Paperlinx.

Amcor's 45 percent stake in Kimberly-Clark Australia, a tissue and personal care company, was fully sold to Kimberly-Clark in June 2002.

Mergers and acquisitions

In July 2002, Amcor acquired the rigid packaging and closures business from Schmalbach-Lubeca, based in Ratingen , Germany. With this acquisition, which cost $ 2.875 billion, Amcor became the world's largest manufacturer of PET ( polyethylene terephthalate ) containers.

In 2007 Amcor sold its European PET business to La Seda, a manufacturer based in Spain .

In February 2008, Amcor announced the construction of a recycled paper mill with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year, located in the existing paper mill in Botany, New South Wales . Amcor's other recycled paper mill in Fairfield, Victoria, was closed at the end of 2012 due to the expanded capacity of the site.

In 2010, Amcor completed the acquisition of Alcan Food ( Europe and Asia ) and the global pharmaceutical and tobacco businesses of Rio Tinto for $ 2.03 billion.
