The Telstra Corporation ( ASX - and NYSE code: TLS) is an international telecommunications company based in Melbourne , Victoria , Australia . The company is listed on the All Ordinaries on the Australian Securities Exchange and the NZX 50 Index on the New Zealand Exchange .

The Telstra Corporation was active in 2017 with more than 32,000 people in 20 countries. Telecommunications services originally belonged to the remit of the Postmaster General's Department (PMG), the state post office in Australia, founded in 1901 .
