Fortescue Metals Group , abbreviated to FMG , is an Australian mining company based in Perth that primarily mines iron ore . The company, founded in 2003, is listed in the S & P / ASX 50 share index. According to its own information, it is the fourth largest iron ore producer in the world and primarily supplies China and the Asian region.

history

In 2006 Fortescue planned its loading facilities in Herb Elliot Port at Port Hedland , the Fortescue Railway and the alignment of the opencast mines of the Chichester Hub. Iron ore production began two years later at the Cloud Break Mine and in 2009 at the Christmas Creek Mine . In 2014, the Firetail Mine and Kings Mine opencast mines began production, which together form the Salomon Hub. The alignment of these pits cost A $ 8.4 billion.
