history
The company was founded in 1874 under the company name Jones, Scott and Co. as a supplier of explosives during the Australian gold rush in Victoria . The company was later bought by Akzo Nobel . Nobel merged with other British chemical companies to form Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). The Australian division was renamed Imperial Chemical Industries of Australia and New Zealand (ICIANZ) in 1928 , which became ICI Australia in 1971 . In July 1997, Imperial Chemical Industries sold its Australian operations, resulting in Orica .
