Scentre Group is an Australian real estate company based in Sydney . The group is the parent company of Scentre Group Trust 1 (SGT1), Scentre Group Trust 2 (SGT2) and Scentre Group Trust 3 (SGT3). The company owns and operates a portfolio of shopping centers in Australia and New Zealand. The company's portfolio includes around 42 Westfield- branded shopping centers and over 12,000 retail stores. The company handles ownership, development, design, construction, fund / asset management, real estate management, leasing and marketing activities for its centers.

It was founded in 2014 and is listed on the S & P / ASX 50 .

history

  • 1959: In July 1959, John Saunders and Frank Lowy opened their first mall - Westfield Plaza in Blacktown. It contained 12 shops, 2 department stores and a supermarket.
  • 1960: IPO on the Australian Stock Exchange . 300,000 shares were issued at an issue price of 5 schillings.
  • 1961: The first project opened in Hornsby. It contained 22 shops.
  • 1962: By December, 8 shopping centers had opened in the Sydney area.
  • 1969: By 1969 another 3 shopping centers were opened.
  • 1970: Westfield headquarters opened on Williams Street in Sydney. In the 1970s, 6 new shopping centers are opened.
  • 1977: Entry into the US market through acquisition of a center in Trumbull , Connecticut .
  • 1980: In 1980 Westfield acquired three new centers in the United States, California , Michigan, and Connecticut. The company also acquired the Macy's portfolio in 1986 and established its US headquarters in Los Angeles in 1987. In 1988 there were seven centers in Westfield's US portfolio valued at $ 1.1 billion .
  • 1986: Acquisition of three renowned shopping centers in the USA . The acquisition included the Garden State Plaza in Paramus , New Jersey .
  • 1992: In Australia, Doncaster (Melbourne) and Liverpool and Miranda in Sydney carried out extensive renovations. When completed, Miranda became Australia's largest mall and the first to have more than 300 stores. Over the course of the decade, 16 new centers were developed and the portfolio expanded from 21 to 30 centers.
  • 1997: Entry into the New Zealand market.
  • 2000: Entry into the UK market.
  • 2002: Acquisition of 9 shopping centers in the USA.
  • 2004: Westfield Group is established through the merger of Westfield Holdings , Westfield Trust and Westfield America . This created the world's largest retail property group by stock market capitalization.
  • 2014: The Westfield Group separates its Australian and New Zealand business from the rest of the business. On June 30, 2014, the Scentre Group is formed through the merger of the Westfield Retail Trust and the Australian and New Zealand divisions of the Westfield Group.
