Wesfarmers is one of the largest Australian public companies . The group is a conglomerate of various branches of industry such as fertilizer production, coal mining, chemicals, liquefied gas, building materials production, insurance and others. It operates mostly in Australia and New Zealand .
history
The company was founded in 1914 as an agricultural cooperative . In 1984 the company went public on the Australian Stock Exchange . The company performed very well during this period and between 1994 and 2003 was able to achieve a stock return of around 29 percent, the second highest value on the Australian Stock Exchange. In 2000, the company bought the Curragh coal mining company for $ 120 million.
