The Beno Gutenberg Medal is a geophysical award given by the European Geosciences Union (EGU).

The award was introduced in 1996 by the European Geophysical Society (EGS) in the section “Geophysics of the Solid Earth”. After its merger with the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) in 2003, the award has been made by the EGU that emerged from it ever since.

The prize is intended to honor people for their outstanding contributions and work in the field of seismology . The medal is named after Beno Gutenberg (1889–1960), who through his research made a decisive contribution to the understanding of earthquakes and the structure of the earth as well as to the development of seismology as a geophysical method. Gutenberg is still considered one of the most important seismologists in history.
