The place Kwinana is located in Western Australia , 37 kilometers south of the capital Perth . It is the administrative center of Kwinana City , which has 39,000 inhabitants (2016).

Kwinana was once a part of Rockingham , but it grew so quickly that it became independent. It is only a matter of time before the place can be called the city of Kwinana. Large-scale industry has settled in Kwinana, as the sea ( Indian Ocean ) is ideal for loading ships. In addition to Alcoa's aluminum plant, there are numerous chemical plants, oil depots and other large-scale plants.

A few years ago, Kwinana (an Aboriginal name) was more or less unknown outside of industry, but has increased in population due to the construction of the Perth - Mandurah motorway . The Perth-Mandurah rail line went into operation on December 24, 2007, reducing travel time to 25 minutes.

Kwinana - or rather, the center of Wellard - has created a completely unique settlement concept. The railway stop and a shopping center are in the middle of the new development area and the single-family houses are all around, so that almost everyone can get there on foot. At the end of Wellard, EmuSan (TM) Natural Products Australia is also based. From here, emu and sandalwood oils and their cosmetic products are shipped all over the world.

In the eastern part of Wellard there are still so-called "hobby farms". Usually there are five acres of land (1 acre = 4,000 m²). Some of the land owners have one or two horses, the others simply use the farm to enjoy the peace and quiet and nature. In the next five years this eastern part will become an “oasis”, because until then the area will be surrounded by “residential blocks” (around 400 m²).

In the last three to five years a new trend has developed, the “baby bommer” (people who have reached retirement age and no longer want to have anything to do with the big city sell their property and move into the countryside). Today this trend has reached an unusually high level, so that even the relatively few “hobby farms” have become very scarce.

The first Australian seawater desalination plant for large-scale consumption, which is operated with electricity from wind turbines, has been there since November 2006. It produces up to 130 million liters a day (45 million m³ annually). This covers approx. 17% of the water needs of the city of Perth.
