The company manufactured its first machine in 1953 and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1996 and is included in the S & P / ASX 50 index . The company was founded by Len Ainsworth, whose family holds a significant stake in the company but is now the chairman of the gaming company Ainsworth Game Technology . Aristocrat is licensed to distribute slot machines and other gaming products in over 200 countries. Aristocrat's chairman blamed the 2008 US subprime mortgage crisis for poor financial results, despite rival companies seeing record growth over the same period. As a result of the expected drop in sales, the CEO issued extensive budget cuts, including extensive staff reduction measures in all business areas. In 2009 the company was again faced with difficult market conditions. The full year resulted in a net loss of $ 157.8 million.
