In February 2006, Ely Ould Mohamed Vall of the Mauritanian government announced that Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya had signed a contract with the previous government in 2004 for an oil production project, the Mauritania-Chinguetti Project, offshore the coast of Mauritania in the amount of US - Closed $ 600 million.
