QBE Insurance was formed in 1973 from the merger of the Australian companies Queensland Insurance, Bankers 'and Traders' Insurance Company and The Equitable Probate and General Insurance Company; the abbreviation QBE contains a letter for each of the three companies. The company offers various types of insurance to its clients mainly in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

Company history

The Winterthur- US insurance branch, which went to the French Axa group in June 2006 , was resold to QBE Insurance in 2007 and will lead to the disappearance of the traditional name "Winterthur". The transaction amounts to 1.156 billion US dollars (2.2 billion Swiss francs). Winterthur US, which is active in real estate and liability insurance, achieved premium income of 1.48 billion US dollars and 81 million in net profit in 2006.
