The Kimberly-Clark Corporation , based in Dallas ( USA ), is one of the leading manufacturers of hygiene products in the world.

The global company employs more than 42,000 people and generated sales of around 18 billion US dollars in 2017. Thomas J. Falk has been Chief Executive Officer since 2002.

history

Kimberly-Clark was founded in Neenah, Wisconsin in 1872 as a paper manufacturer by John Kimberly, Havilah Babcock, Charles Clark and Frank Shattuck . In 1914 she developed cellulose wadding that was used by the US Army as a dressing material during the First World War . This formed the basis for the Kotex sanitary napkin , which was brought onto the market in 1920, which was finally followed by the market launch of the first disposable handkerchief in 1924 with Kleenex . Kimberly-Clark has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since May 8, 1929 .

In the 1950s, Kimberly-Clark built new plants in Mexico, Germany and the UK. In the 1960s, 17 further foreign branches were founded. In 1970 Kimberly-Clark started producing disposable diapers . In 1991, Kimberly-Clark and the New York Times sold their paper mill, which they had operated together since 1926. In 1994, Kimberly-Clark took over the Camelia brand from VP Schickedanz . In 1995, Kimberly-Clark bought Scott Paper for $ 9.4 billion. This was followed by the following major acquisitions:

  • 1999 Attisholz Group (Switzerland) for 365 million US dollars. Cellulose Attisholz AG remained independent at the time.
  • 1999 Ballard Medical Products for $ 744 million
  • 2000 Safeskin (doctor's gloves) for $ 800 million

In mid-2006 the Hakle Kimberly plant in Reichenburg was closed and integrated into the Niederbipp plant. The traditional brand HAKLE has been produced in Niederbipp for Switzerland since then . In Switzerland, the company is represented by Kimberly-Clark GmbH based in Niederbipp. In Germany the company is represented by Kimberly-Clark GmbH based in Koblenz .

Brands

On the German private customer market, Kimberly-Clark is represented with the brands Camelia, U by Camelia, DryNites, Huggies (through the takeover of the Attisholz Group), Kleenex , Servus, Depend and Cottonelle. In Austria and Switzerland, Hakle is also sold by Kimberly-Clark.
