Bandages

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When dressings are called materials from which a medical bandage is made. They are also used as dressing material or colloquially as dressing (s) and are part of first- aid kits .

According to the German BVMed , bandages are "medical products that stop bleeding, suck up exudates , clean wounds, protect against external influences, promote granulation , create, preserve or restore a wound climate that promotes healing , support, bandage , cover, compress, apply medication" and " Prevent or relieve pain ”.

A further distinction can be made between sterile or at least low-germ wound dressings and non-sterile fastening material. However, there are also ready-to-use, combined combinations of wound dressing and fastening material. For fastening material are ribbon-like bandages ( gauze , Ideal bonding , elastic bandages , stockinette binding ) and Dreieckstücher . Ready-to-use compilations are first aid kits and first aid bandages .

The requirements for the individual types of bandage are usually standardized, for example by DIN in Germany and by ÖNORM in Austria (see individual articles).
