A gauze bandage in Switzerland ( gauze ) is a non-sterile dressings in the form of a roller bandage , which for fixing sterile wound dressings used. It is to be distinguished from the sterile bandage pack .

In earlier times there were no elastic bandages, so bandaging techniques were taught and practiced that hardly anyone can do today. It is reminiscent of the testudo (turtle), with which an elbow or knee was connected, or the corn-ear bandage for the lower leg. For training nurses and doctors, gauze bandages with colored edges were used to make the course of the individual courses clearer.

In the meantime, gauze bandages are mostly being replaced by more modern bandages, there are elastic tricot bandages and tubular bandages in almost all sizes that fit much better and can barely constrict.

Gauze bandages are standardized in Germany in DIN 61631.
