Rickenbach is a municipality in the Olten district in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland . It belongs to the so-called Solothurnian Gäu .
geography
Rickenbach is located in the Mittelland at the foot of the Jura .
history
To the south of the Jura, there was a road already in Roman times with numerous Roman villas on its sides. The village got its name from the brook that flows from the Jura through a small gorge ("Ric", Middle High German for bottleneck, ravine) and flows into the Dünnern . The earliest documented mention comes from a land sale by the Counts of Frohburg to the St. Urban monastery in 1288.
In January 2020 it became known that the maximum levels of chlorothalonil in drinking water had been exceeded.
Rickenbach Castle
On the Büntenrain, northwest of the Rickenbach chapel, there is a castle built around 1050 by the Count Kuno von Rheinfelden . After 1080 it passed to the diocese of Basel and was expanded. Already in the first half of the 12th century it was gradually abandoned and used as a quarry in the following centuries.
coat of arms
The village coat of arms shows the white figure of St. Lawrence on a red background , with rust in the right hand and a martyr's palm in the left hand. It was created in 1940 and derived from an old seal. St. Lawrence was the patron saint of the village and patron saint of the chapel as early as the Middle Ages.
Varia
