Dankeskirche (Düsseldorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dankeskirche was a Protestant church in Düsseldorf - Mörsenbroich , which only existed from 1950 to 1960. It was a Bartning emergency church , it was replaced by the Thomaskirche built elsewhere .

history

Since almost all the buildings of the Protestant parish were destroyed by the air raids on Düsseldorf in the Second World War, the Dankeskirche was built as an emergency church on the corner plot of Brehmstrasse / Münsterstrasse (today ARAG-Platz). As part of the church building program of the Evangelical Church in Germany , which is financed by sister churches abroad, a construction made of prefabricated wooden trusses with a bricked-in chancel was created based on a type design by the architect Otto Bartning , corresponding to the type B design .

The foundation stone was laid on February 19, 1950 ; the inauguration took place on October 8, 1950. 1960 the church was demolished. The ARAG terrace house was built in its place from 1963 to 1966 , which was later replaced by the ARAG tower .
