Dar & Receber (Eng .: give & take ) is the second and final studio album by the Portuguese singer and composer António Variações . It was published in February 1984 a few months before his death.

Emergence

A few months after the release of his debut album Anjo da Guarda and a few concerts, Variações returned to the studio to record his second album. He won Pedro Ayres Magalhães and Carlos Maria Trindade , both members of the pop / rock band Heróis do Mar, as producers . The album was recorded within three weeks, between February 6th and 25th, 1984.

The already poor health of the singer and the hesitant approach of his record company prevented optimal marketing of the album. It finally hit the market in May 1984 and received very positive reviews on the radio and critics. When the title Canção de Engate , his most popular song to date, conquered the radio, Variações was already in hospital with symptoms of asthmatic bronchitis. He died five weeks later.

reception

The album is considered a milestone in Portuguese pop music of the 1980s. Several artists recorded cover versions of the songs, including the Delfins , MDA and Funkoffandfly. In 2000, a remixed version of the album was released including the previously unreleased title Minha cara sem fronteiras .

Track list

All compositions except one are by Variações. In Canção he uses a poem by Fernando Pessoa as a text. The title Deolinda de Jesus is dedicated to his mother.
