Pedro Ayres Ferreira de Almeida Gonçalves Magalhães (born July 31, 1959 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese musician.

Life

From 1976 to 1981 he attended the National Conservatory in Lisbon (today Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema ). He was a co-founder of Portugal's first punk band, Os Faíscas (German: Die Blitze), from which the New Wave group Corpo Diplomático (German: Diplomatic Corps) emerged. After the end of 1981 Magalhães founded the pioneering pop band Heróis do Mar with some of his bandmates .

In 1982 he co-founded the independent label Fundação Atlântica (German: Atlantic Foundation) and also produced various records by other musicians, including the LPs Sonho Azul (German: Blue Dream) by Né Ladeiras (1983) and Dar & Receber (German : Blue Dream) . : Give and take) by António Variações (1984). He subsequently wrote texts and music for artists such as Pilar , Rão Kyao , Lena D'Água and the Delfins , of which he was also a member of the band. In 1984 he released his only record under his own name, a maxi single with two instrumental pieces.

In 1986 he co-founded the Portugal pioneering concert agency Malucos da Pátria ( Eng : Crazy of the Fatherland), with bands such as Sétima Legião , Heróis do Mar , Xutos & Pontapés , Delfins and Mão Morta . In 1989 the concert agency União Lisboa was created , which set new standards in terms of professionalism and size in Portugal. As part of this activity, some well-known musicians from bands such as Xutos & Pontapés, Delfins, Santos & Pecadores u. a. around Magalhães to found the supergroup Resistência , which had great success in Portugal from 1990 to 1994 with concerts and two studio and one live album.

With Rodrigo Leão , his longtime musical companion Carlos Maria Trindade and the singer Teresa Salgueiro , he founded the group Madredeus in 1986 , which in the 1990s became the most internationally successful Portuguese music group to date. By April 2012, she had sold around 3 million records, two thirds of which were abroad, and gave around 1,000 concerts, around 700 of which were abroad.

After a leading role in 1987 in the film Duma Vez por Todas (German: once and for all) by director Joaquim Leitão , he only appeared occasionally as an actor, including with Madredeus in 1994 in the much-acclaimed film Lisbon Story , by German director Wim Wenders . He also contributed the score to some films and television series, partly as a composer, partly with Madredeus as an interpreter
