Pilar Homem de Melo

Pilar Homem de Melo (born July 5, 1963 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese singer who performs under her stage name Pilar .

She lived in Rio de Janeiro from 1975 to 1981 , where she began to write songs. From 1982 to 1985 she completed a music degree at the Berklee College of Music in Boston . In 1988 she signed EMI- Valentim de Carvalho , and in 1989 her first album was released, produced by Wayne Shorter . In 2000 she switched to the record company Zona Música-Mute, where she released her next two albums.

In 2011 she announced a new album. Up to now her music has been characterized by poetic, soulful, light songs between jazz , modern pop music and the tradition of singer-songwriters , although the instrumentation varied from initially reduced-acoustic to later also electronic.
