The Republic of Dar El Kuti or Republic of Logone is an autonomous region proclaimed by the Muslim rebel movement Séléka on December 14, 2015. The territory is generally recognized internationally as part of the Central African Republic .

background

In March 2013, the Séléka rebels drove the Christian President of the Central African Republic, François Bozizé, out of office. Civil war broke out with the Christian anti-Balaka militias . The international community sent troops with the MINUSCA peacekeeping mission and scheduled a constitutional referendum on December 13, 2015 and national elections on December 27 in order to stabilize the country again. However, Noureddine Adam , the leader of the Central African Renaissance (FPRC), one of the four Muslim militias of the Séléka, rejected the scheduled elections. In his view, Muslims and Christians could no longer live together in one country. On December 14, his spokesman Maouloud Moussa proclaimed the autonomous Republic of Logane in the north-east of the country . He declared that the aim was first to achieve autonomy within the Central African Republic and then to achieve absolute independence. One invokes the peoples' right to self-determination .

"Dar El Kuti" was later announced as the name of the new country. The name was adopted from the historic sultanate of Dar El Kuti . The flag of Dar El Kuti was already set the day after in several villages, such as Tiringoul , Ndifa , Mele . Flag ceremonies were planned for the weekend in Kaga-Bandoro , N'Délé , Bria and Birao . The flag shows three horizontal stripes in yellow (for the gold of the north), black (for the north being abandoned by the Bangui government ) and green (for the fertility of the land). In the middle of the black stripe is a black star with a white border . It stands for the struggle of the people in the north for their self-determination.
