Birao is a city in the north of the Central African Republic . It is the capital of the Prefecture of Vakaga . Its population was estimated at 9,800 in 2000, and in 2007 it was calculated to be 10,300.
history
In March 2007, the city was almost completely burned down during fighting in the region. Government soldiers and French fighter planes attacked them after rebel activity broke out over maladministration in the region.
On November 24, 2010, the Convention of Patriots for Justice and Peace (CPDP) conquered the city. Only after a week could it be recaptured by government troops. The Chad Air Force flew attacks.
