Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar

The album Ruke was created out of improvisation and exchange with other musicians. A mill in Burgundy with a large collection of exotic instruments provided the perfect working environment. Isabel (violin), Đani Pervan (drummer), Dušan Vranić (pianist), Vedran Peternel (sound design) and Rundek improvised in Isabel's converted water mill on the edge of a small village. The sessions were documented by the camera work of Biljana Tutorov, whose video projections also became a feature of the Cargo Orkestar concerts. A year later the album was recorded and released simultaneously by Menart in Croatia and Metropolis in Serbia. Some songs were co-written by different members of the group. The formation of the band was completed on the promotion tour in 2002: the trumpeter Igor Pavlica, the trombonist Emmanuel Ferraz and the bassist Bruno Arnalund firmly joined her. The project is influenced by a wide variety of musical traditions: Balkan music, Central European and Mediterranean music, as well as reggae and Latin American, Eastern European and African music.
