Darlene Anaya

Darlene Anaya (born August 20, 1961 ) is a former judoka from the United States. She was third in the 1984 World Cup and won the 1983 Pan American Games.

Athletic career

Darlene Anaya fought in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. From 1981 to 1987 she won six championship titles, only in 1985 she lost in the final to Jo Anne Quiring .

Anaya took part in world championships four times. In 1982 in Paris she was defeated in the first round by the French Marie-France Colignon , on the hope round Amnaya reached seventh place. In 1984 in Vienna she lost to the British Karen Briggs in the semi-finals . With a victory over Anna Chodakowska from Poland , Anaya secured a bronze medal. 1986 in Maastricht she was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the Chinese Li Zhongyun . At the 1987 World Championships in Essen, Anaya lost to Li Zhongyun in the semi-finals. She lost the battle for a bronze medal against Jessica Gal from the Netherlands .

In 1983, women's judo competitions were held for the first time at the Pan American Games in Caracas . In the super lightweight final, Anaya and the Brazilian Ines Nazareth faced each other and Anaya won the gold medal. In 1985 Anaya lost in the final of the Pan American Championships to María Elena Villapol from Venezuela. In 1987 Anaya won another bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis .
