Darnick Tower

Darnick Tower is a tower house in the Scottish town of Darnick in the Council Area Scottish Borders . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The Tower House is off Abbotsford Road in the center of Darnick. It was built in the 16th century on the site of a previous tower that was razed in 1545. The builder was the Heiton family . In 1867, a two-year restoration was completed and the structure was expanded two years later. In the course of this, the windows were enlarged and the tourelles were renewed. The three-story Darnick Tower has a T-shaped floor plan, with a rear stair tower forming the short leg. Its masonry consists of quarry stone with natural stone details and was once plastered with Harl . The year 1595 is given above the entrance portal on the stair wing. A crenellated reinforcement runs around the main tower. The gable of the final gable roof is made as a stepped gable . While a possibly original wing on the west side was broken off, the two-story east wing probably dates from 1869.
