Darnick is a village in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders or in the traditional county of Roxburghshire . It lies between the small towns of Tweedbank and Melrose on the right bank of the Tweed .

history

Three peel towers were once grouped at the site . Of these, the Darnick Tower has been preserved in today's center. The Tower House goes back to a defense tower of the Heiton family, which was built around 1425. English troops razed the building in 1545. As a result, the Tower House was rebuilt.

In 1871 there were 435 people living in Darnick.

traffic

The A6091 passes directly to the south and connects the towns between Galashiels and Newtown St Boswells . The A7 is within a few kilometers to the west and the A68 to the east . Darnick was on the Waverley Line , but did not have its own train station. The closest train station to the line that was closed in the 1960s was in Melrose. With the resumption of a section as the Borders Railway , the terminus of the line was built in the neighboring Tweedbank.
