The performer is the interpreter of a role or figure in works of the performing arts such as drama , film or musical . Performers can be trained actors or amateur actors . Representation is a part of the individual work, the staging , for which the director bears overall responsibility. The main roles of the main characters and supporting cast played. In professional productions, these are mostly professional actors. For smaller roles that require interaction with the plot, often a bit player used. Extras or extras usually act in the background of the actual action. There are special training courses for musical performers in the field of musicals .
