The Darwin Island is the largest island in the group of the Danger Islands on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 18 km east-northeast of the eastern end of Joinville Island .
It was discovered in 1842 during the Antarctic expedition (1839-1843) of the British polar explorer James Clark Ross . This named it after the British naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-1882).
