The ( Arabic داس, DMG Dās ) is an island belonging to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi , 162 km northwest of Abu Dhabi City in the Persian Gulf . The island measures 300 hectares and reaches a height of 46 meters.
It is 2.5 km² in size and has been the loading port for the crude oil from the surrounding offshore fields Umm Schaif and Zakum , which has been pumped in through pipelines, since 1962 . The liquefied natural gas from these fields has been shipped to Japan since 1976 .
