Das Boot is the debut album of the German techno music project U 96 . It was released on March 6, 1992 by the record label Polydor and reached number 11 in the German album charts.

The album was produced by the Matiz / AC16 production team, which, in addition to Alex Christensen, consisted of Hayo Panarinfo, Helmut Hoinkis and Ingo Hauss.

The eponymous song "Das Boot" is a techno - cover that of Klaus Doldinger composed theme song of the soundtrack for the movie Das Boot . The single was released in 1991 and was the first major commercial success of the then still young techno culture in Germany, where the single sold over 500,000 times and topped the single charts for 13 weeks. A music video was also released for the single, in which scenes from the feature film could be seen.

The track “I Wanna Be a Kennedy” is based on a sample from “ Fade to Gray ” by Visage from 1980; the single reached number 4 on the charts. A music video was also released for "I Wanna Be a Kennedy", which contained scenes with recordings by John F. Kennedy .

The track "Ambient Underworld" is based on a sample from "Native Love" by Divine from 1982.
