The duel in the first was a quiz show moderated by Florian Weber . It ran from Tuesday to Friday at 6:50 p.m. on ARD until its removal on November 3, 2011 .

background

In the show, prominent guests competed against viewer candidates. It was about a profit of 20,000 euros. If the viewer candidate won, he was allowed to keep the money, if the celebrity won, ARD donated it to a good cause. The candidates had to answer ten questions or tasks from different areas of knowledge. Whoever solved them faster got the points. If the answer was wrong, the points went to the opponent. Since the number of points awarded increased with each round, the result remained open until the end.

Already at the end of 2009, the show was criticized because the audience numbers were not entirely satisfactory and consideration was given to canceling it. The 17 episodes of the quiz show broadcast at that time had an average of 1.8 million viewers and achieved a market share of 7.4 percent of the total audience.

From September 2010, the 30-minute broadcasting time was expanded to a 55-minute double episode, because the program also took over the broadcasting slot from the quiz with Jörg Pilawa that had become free when Jörg Pilawas switched to ZDF . However, this measure was also controversial because Das Duell im Erste, with a market share of around 8.5 percent, still failed to meet expectations.
