Game rules and course of the game

There was a pair of candidates who had the chance, in the best case , to win 300,000 euros or 500,000 D-Marks (before the changeover to euros). There were twelve prize levels from 500 euros to 300,000 euros. The pair of candidates were allowed to choose two prize levels before the start of a game round. After reaching one of these two profit levels, the respective amount of money was certain, even if an incorrect answer was given later.

The questions were asked alternately to one of the two candidates, who had the choice between four predetermined answer alternatives . After settling on an answer, the other candidate could either leave the answer alone or “ veto ” it. In this case he had the option to choose a different answer or to swap the question and then be asked a new question of the same level. The candidates were not allowed to consult, speak to one another or have physical contact. Each pair of candidates had four vetoes at the start of the game, one of which could be used as an exchange veto to receive a new question.

In contrast to the RTL program Wer wird Millionär? the pair of candidates could no longer get out after a question was read out, so the team had to decide before each question whether they wanted to continue playing or end the game with the total winnings.
