The Swiss book

The Swiss book is the Swiss national bibliography and has been published by the Swiss National Library since 1901. The Swiss book records the Swiss media production: books, geographical maps, electronic media, sheet music and multimedia. The first number of a title is displayed for magazines, newspapers, yearbooks and series. Non-Swiss publications are also recorded if they come from Swiss authors or if they concern Switzerland.

Structure and scope

1901–1942: Bibliographical Bulletin

Of the Swiss National Library which was from 1901 to 1942 Bibliographic Bulletin of the Swiss National Library = Bulletin bibliographique de la Bibliothèque Nationale Suisse issued. The bulletin was published irregularly from 1901 to 1916. The listed documents are arranged alphabetically. From 1916 it appears monthly. The titles are arranged according to subject groups. There is an author register. In addition to the bibliography , the bulletin contains an editorial section with advertisements and reviews. Author and, since 1938, subject indexes appear annually.

1943 ff .: The Swiss Book

From 1943 the Bibliographical Bulletin was continued under the title Das Schweizer Buch = Le Livre suisse = Il libro svizzero . The year census of the Bibliographic Bulletin will be continued. Two series were published up to 1975: A. Publication of the book trade, bi-monthly; B. Publication outside the book trade, every two months. The Swiss book has been published every two weeks since the two series were merged in 1975.

The booklets were published by the Swiss Book Dealers' Association until 2007 . In 2007 the printed edition was discontinued. The Swiss book has been published in a dynamic online edition and as a PDF since 2007 . The dynamic edition can be consulted via the catalog of the Swiss National Library Helveticat. The PDF edition appears every six months and is published on the website of the Swiss National Library. The title was supplemented by a Rhaeto-Romanic and English parallel title and from 2007 reads Das Schweizer Buch = Le Livre suisse = Il libro svizzero = Il cudesch svizzer = The Swiss book .

The Swiss book is arranged according to subject groups according to the Dewey decimal classification . Author and title registers exist in the PDF edition. The dynamic online edition offers numerous search points (author, title, keyword, subject group, etc.) The titles that have appeared within the last 10 years are retrospectively included. The description will be made until October 2016 in accordance with the Anglo-American cataloging rules (AACR2). From October 2016, the media will be included in accordance with the RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloging rules . The recordings contain all elements for their clear identification. The music notes are recorded in booklet 16. From 2007 to 2014 issue 25 was published with an accumulation of all newspapers, magazines, series and yearbooks.
