Datatilsynet (Norway)

Datatilsynet is Norway's national data protection authority , based in Oslo . She is responsible for protecting the privacy and security of digital data registers.

The authority has existed since 1980 and has been subordinate to the local ministry since 2006 . The legal and working basis of Datatilsynet is the law on personal data ( Norwegian : personopplysningsloven ) from 2000. In 2018, the Norwegian national parliament in Storting passed a new law, which incorporated the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation . Their tasks include keeping a file that contains all licensed processing procedures, checking data protection compliance with laws and cooperating with national and international data protection authorities.

Bjørn Erik Thon has been the director of Datatilsynet since 2010 , before that from 1989 Georg Apenes . From 1980 to 1989 Helge Seip headed the authority.

Datatilsynet is a member of the International Conference of Commissioners for Data Protection and the Protection of Privacy .
