Datong volcanic group

The Datong volcano group ( Chinese  大同 火山 群 ) is a famous group of over 30 already extinct volcanoes in northern China.

It is located 20 to 60 km east of Yunzhou in the Chinese province of Shanxi . The volcanoes from the Tertiary are mainly in the area of ​​the districts Zuoyun (左云) and Youyu (Kre), those from the Quaternary mainly in the northern part of the Datong basin (大同 盆地 Datong pendi). In 1974 it was reported that the Datong volcanoes were still active, causing panic among the population.
