The thumb throttle is a control element of a motor vehicle with which the engine power can be controlled and thus the speed can be regulated. Thumb throttle levers are used in vehicles such as snowmobiles , personal watercraft or quads or ATVs (All Terrain Vehicle), where the driver often keep both hands on the handles need and therefore a rotary throttle as the motorcycle would be impractical, since because of the steering forces precise gas metering is difficult to do with a wrap handle. The throttle is operated with the right thumb. If the lever is pushed towards the handle, the engine speed increases. On many snowmobiles, the thumb throttle can be heated to prevent the hand from cooling down on long journeys in the snow.
