Dauntless is a Finnish death and thrash metal band from Helsinki , which was founded in 1991 under the name Maniax.

history

The band was founded in 1991 by singer and guitarist Sami Helle under the name Maniax. A short time later, drummer Santeri Salmi and bassist Tuomo Tukkimäki joined the band. The band released their first demo called Face the Fact in 1995, which was followed by a second demo called Prophecy ... in 1996. In 1998 the band changed their name to Dauntless.

The band released the next demo called Cold I Am in 1998. Riku Katainen joined the band as the second guitarist. In 1999 the next demo called Inhumankind was released . Several appearances followed and a break until the beginning of 2002.

In the summer of 2002 the band recorded their next demo with Ari Nieminen as the new singer. The demo called Modern Ways of Discipline was released towards the end of the year. The band received the first offers from record labels, which the band declined all. In 2003 some live performances followed, including an afterclub performance of the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival .

In the summer of 2004 the band recorded their next demo with Ruins MMIV . The band also recorded a video for the song Ruins . In 2005 bassist Tuomo Tukkimäki left the band and was replaced by Olli Määttä. After the demo Obey - Erase - Obey was released, the band reached a contract with the Finnish label Firebox Records . Towards the end of 2006, the band went into the studio to record their debut album Execute the Fact . The album consisted of some songs from the demos as well as previously unreleased material.

After the album was released, the band held concerts for a year. In 2008, the band separated from their label and signed a contract with the Finnish label Full Metal Records . Then the band began work on the second album Death Row Poet . During the recording, drummer Santeri Salmi left the band and was replaced by Arto Vesander.

The album was released in 2009.

The band is described as a mix of modern Thrash and Death Metal and is compared to the band Closer .
