David Dana Clark (born April 7, 1944 ) is an American computer scientist and Internet pioneer. He works as a Senior Research Scientist at MIT .

Clark graduated from Swarthmore College in 1966 . In 1973 he received his PhD from MIT, where he has been employed at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory ever since .

From 1981 to 1989, Clark was Chief Protocol Architect of the Internet and headed the Internet Activities Board, which later became the Internet Architecture Board .

In recognition of his significant contributions to the development of Internet architecture, Clark received a SIGCOMM Award in 1990 and 2012, and the Richard W. Hamming Medal of the IEEE in 1998 . In 2002 he was also elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
