David Fields
David Felder (born November 27, 1953 in Cleveland / Ohio ) is an American composer and music teacher.
Felder took private composition lessons with Donald Erb until 1979 and studied at the University of California, San Diego with Roger Reynolds , Bernard Rands , Robert Erickson and Jōji Yuasa until 1983 . He teaches composition at the University of Buffalo . Since 1985 he has been Artistic Director of the June University Music Festival in Buffalo . In 1996 he founded the professional chamber orchestra Slee Sinfonietta , which he has directed ever since, in 2006 he became director of the Robert and Carol Morris Center for 21st Century Music , and in 2008 he was appointed SUNY Distinguished Professor . From 1992 to 1996 he was composer in residence with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra . In 2010 he received the Music Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters for his lifetime achievement .
