life and work

David Harding studied at the Edinburgh College of Art from 1955 to 1959 . After attending Moray House College of Education for a year, he taught at various institutions in Scotland and between 1963 and 1967 at a college in Lafia , Nigeria, which trains teachers. Harding is married with five children. He was Professor of Environmental Art at the Glasgow School of Art until retirement .

“Harding's view of art and the way it should be taught was shaped by his commitment to social justice and his connections to the Artist Placement Group , which was founded in 1966 by Barbara Steveni with John Latham . The group's mantra - "The context is half the work" - should later become the task for the students of the Environmental Art Program. "

In 2008 and 2009, Harding and Ross Birrell traveled to Cuba and Miami to develop the Guantanamera project to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution . This three-part project - a film installation, a sound recording and two 45-minute films - deals with the Cuban song of the same name, made famous in 1963 by Pete Seeger .
