David Holmes Black

David Holmes Black (born April 9, 1946 in Vancouver ) founded Black Press and is currently the owner.

Life

David Holmes Black is the son of Alan and Adelaide Black and attended school in Toronto where his family had moved. On the College studied Black Engineering and earned a master's degree in business administration. In 1973 he found a job as an analyst with the Toronto Star newspaper . The company sent Black to various locations in North America where they had subsidiaries. During his travels, Black learned about the newspaper trade and eventually became the editor of his own newspaper.

Black Press operates 120 local newspapers, daily newspapers and websites in British Columbia, Alberta, Washington State (Sound Publishing), San Francisco, Hawaii and Akron, Ohio.

Black's first newspaper he acquired was the Williams Lake Tribune in 1975 , which he bought from his father and is still owned by Black Press today. Black's second acquisition was the Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal . Black Press now owns other flagship local newspapers such as Victoria News , Surrey Leader , Peace Arch News , Kelowna Capital News, and Abbotsford News .

Oil refinery

On August 17, 2012, Black announced that his company Kitimat Clean Ltd would build an oil refinery in Kitimat, BC for $ 13.2 billion. The refinery will refine bitumen and process it into eight different products. However, the refinement of bitumen coming from the Northern Gateway pipeline is not planned, as there is no such agreement between Black and Enbridge. Black also wants to use its own capital (between $ two and three million) for the environmental review.
