David Israel Kertzer (born February 20, 1948 ) is a professor of social science , anthropology, and Italian studies at Brown University in Providence , Rhode Island . He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Pulitzer Prize winner .

Since 1998 he has been researching the Vatican archives . When those about the pontificate of Pius XI. Opened in 2006, it has also been recorded in the Roman headquarters of the Jesuits and in files of the fascist regime on the relationship between Pope Pius XI. and Mussolini researched.
