David Manson

David Manson (* 1956 ) is an American trombonist, composer and improvisation musician who lives in Saint Petersburg / Florida .

Career

Manson earned a doctorate from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music . In 1982 he received second prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition . He was then a musician with the Florida West Coast Symphony Orchestra and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and taught at Indiana State University from 1983 to 1989 .

After his return to Florida he worked as a composer and soloist a. a. at the BONK New Music Festival , the Subtropics New Music Festival , the Society of Composers and the Society for electro-acoustic music in the United States (SEAMUS) and has worked with musicians such as Cecil Taylor , Sam Rivers , Eugene Chadbourne and Davey Williams .

From 1995 to 2003, Manson served on the board of directors of the Pinellas County Arts Council and director of the Tampa Bay Composers' Forum . He worked with Cecil Taylor at the Atlantic Center for the Arts , was Artist in Residence at the Sound Arts Workshop in Miami and directed the EMIT series for experimental music at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. He has twice received a composition scholarship from the Florida Arts Council (1995 and 2005).

As part of the EMIT series and the Composers Forum, Manson gave more than 200 concerts of contemporary music, including a. by Josep Ott , Eric Lyon , Gustavo Matamoros , Paul Reller and Rob Constable .
